During the afternoon hour of December 12,2018 in the harbel parking on water Street one of the busiest commercial center in Monrovia was shut down after a fire blazed through a warehouse reportedly belonging to Chinese traders leaving several goods and properties worth thousands of United States dollars destroyed.
According to some of the traders, the warehouse recently received 4 forty feet containers of goods from China to be sold during the Christmas season. One of the Chinese traders only identified as Young told checkliberia.com that buck of the goods in the warehouse were rubber slippers and clothing’s from china that were to be distributed to retail outlets across the country. “all of our goods left in the warehouse and got burn” he added.
Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the fire but some traders believed it might be as a result of an electrical problem in the building that led to the outbreak.
It however took over three hours of joint efforts of the Liberian National Fire service, the Liberian National Police and the traders to bring the fire under control.
