President Weah didn’t travel with 37 people, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie speak out

Liberian Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie has described as baseless and misleading speculations that the President of the Republic of Liberia H.E. George Weah has departed the country with a 30 member delegation to France to attend the 2021 Generation Equality Forum.

According to the Executive Mission Website, the Liberian leader will address the forum where he is expected to call on the world to make concrete sustainable commitments towards achieving gender equality.

President Weah is also expected to meet French President Emmanuel Macron on the margins of the forum to discuss peace, security and other issues aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

The president decision to attend the conference in France amid the increases number of corona virus cases in Liberia has been met with criticism from many in the county.

The 2021 Generation Equality Forum will convene governments, International organizations, civil society organizations, youth, private sector and activists.

The Liberian leader is accompanied by Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemaya, Defense Minister Daniel Zainkahn, Gender Minister Williametta Saydee-Tarr and Maritime Commissioner Lenn Eugene Nagbe among others.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Samuel Tweah will chair the cabinet in consultation with the Vice President and via telephone with the President.

Speaking in a telephone interview, Mr. Rennie told the ELBC that the rumor is far from the truth.

The information Minister further clarified that the government has no plans to institute a nationwide lockdown as being speculated by some Liberians.

According to Mr Rennie, any decision to institute a nationwide lockdown would be communicated by the relevant government institution.
